Cummins Inc. in Fletcher, NC, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join the Drivetrain and Braking Systems manufacturing team.
The role focuses on cross-functional collaboration, safety leadership, and delivering advanced automation and networking solutions on-site. You will design and implement controls hardware and software, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing systems to improve efficiency and product quality.
We are looking for a talented Senior Controls Engineer to join our Cummins Drivetrain and Braking Systems (CDBS) Manufacturing team located in Fletcher, NC.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with operations, engineering, maintenance, suppliers, and production teams to deliver automation and controls solutions that support shared manufacturing objectives.
Effective Communication: Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for diverse audiences, ensuring alignment on project goals, system changes, and operational improvements.
Safety Leadership: Champion a proactive safety culture by identifying controls-related risks, supporting corrective actions, and promoting safe work practices that contribute to an injury-free workplace.
Controls Engineering Excellence: Design, review, and implement controls hardware and software solutions that improve equipment performance, reliability, and integration across manufacturing systems.
Advanced Automation & Networking: Drive manufacturing innovation by implementing automation technologies and controls networking solutions that enhance machine connectivity, process visibility, and operational efficiency.
System Security & Reliability: Strengthen manufacturing operations by developing secure, reliable control systems that protect equipment, data, and production processes from operational and cybersecurity risks.
Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement: Apply electrical controls expertise to rapidly diagnose and resolve system issues, minimizing downtime and improving overall equipment effectiveness.
Manufacturing Optimization: Leverage machine programming, sensor technology, and manufacturing knowledge to improve process capability, product quality, automation performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Technical Troubleshooting Expertise: Develop the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and programming issues to minimize downtime and maintain production performance.
Hands-On Maintenance Support: Partner closely with maintenance teams by providing practical, on-the-floor technical support that ensures equipment reliability and efficient problem resolution.
Sense of Urgency & Problem Solving: Apply analytical thinking and a proactive approach to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and restore systems to operational status as quickly as possible.
Manufacturing Operations Focus: Build a strong understanding of production processes and equipment to make effective decisions that improve uptime, productivity, and overall operational efficiency.
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
