Job summary

IPG is seeking a qualified Controls Engineer to lead PLC programming, automation, and electrical troubleshooting at the Blythewood, SC facility. You will own PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks, guiding improvements for safety and uptime.

The role requires 3+ years in manufacturing controls, experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, and a strong background in VFDs, servo drives, and electrical schematics. On-site work with cross-functional teams is expected.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
3+ years of controls, automation, or electrical engineering experience in manufacturing.
Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs.
Experience with VFDs, servo drives, motor starters, relays, contactors, and other control equipment.
Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
Knowledge of EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus networks.
Experience with HMI/SCADA such as FactoryTalk, Ignition, Wonderware, or WinCC.

Responsibilities

Serve as the site's primary Controls Engineer and technical owner for PLCs and automation systems.
Maintain and optimize Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC programs for safe plant operations.
Lead troubleshooting to improve uptime and equipment performance.
Program and commission VFDs, servo systems, and motor controls.
Develop backup procedures, electrical drawings, and control narratives.
Support automation projects from concept through implementation.
Interface with operators, maintenance, and vendors to meet plant goals.
