Job summary

Belcan in West Lafayette, IN is seeking a Controls Engineer to support system test and integration rigs at the Purdue Technology Center Aerospace. This full-time position offers full benefits and requires a BS in Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience.

You will work with Test Rig and Simulation teams to configure and operate rigs, debug and root-cause issues, review verification findings, and assist in integrating engine component features through the product

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is REQUIRED.
  • BS or MS in Electrical, Systems or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • Previous test rig experience, including build or modification.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Aptitude for computers, software, and scripting languages.
  • Familiar with electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, generators, multimeters).
  • Experience with Python or Perl scripting.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% locally.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, configure, maintain and operate multi-purpose test rigs for gas turbine electronics and controls.
  • Debug, troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on test rig setups and UUTs.
  • Review verification findings and propose remedies for issues.
  • Support design and integration of new engine component features through the product lifecycle.
  • Installs components and supports stakeholders during verification and validation.

Job description

A Controls Engineer position supporting system test and integration rigs is currently available at Belcan in West Lafayette, Indiana. The individual will be based initially at the Purdue Technology Center Aerospace (PTCA). This is a full-time, direct job with full benefits. Great matching candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience. Other related disciplines may be considered depending on experience. You will be a key team member that supports projects related to engine controls systems and/or software for airborne platforms.

Job Duties:
  • Working directly with others from the Test Rig and Simulation teams to schedule, configure, maintain and operate the multi-purpose system, software and integration test rigs which are used for testing of gas turbine system electronics, controls and applicable components.
  • Use your skills and expertise to debug, troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis to the test rig set up, configuration and the various unit under test (UUT). Including perform debugging / troubleshooting of systems and software throughout the development process
  • Review system and software verification findings and errors to help determine the root cause of the observation and provide recommendations on how to remedy or resolve the issue.
  • Support design and integration of new engine component features throughout the product maturity lifecycle.
  • Hands on instillation of components and the availability to support multiple stakeholders through the verification and validation.
Required Qualifications:
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is REQUIRED
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Previous test rig experience a must, recommended experience building or modifying.
  • High attention to detail to be able to work both independently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Aptitude for computers, software, and scripting languages.
  • Comfortable working around electronic test equipment, including Oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, etc.
  • Experienced with scripting, scripting principles and scripting languages (Python, Perl, "homegrown" language, etc.)
  • Ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment including virtual teams
  • Self-motivated and highly organized contributor willing to help others be successful - as a key team member you will earn responsibility, accountability to the team, and enjoy job satisfaction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to be inquisitive and be highly communicative are critical to your success in this role to enable team engagement, team representation to customers and stakeholders (verbal and non-verbal forms of communication).
  • Ability to travel locally up to 50%
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of requirements databases and/or software development tools, such as Matlab/Simulink, LabView, DOORS, etc.
  • Understanding of control theory concepts and components, such as closed-loop control, sensors, actuators, feedback, signal conditioning, failure detection, microcontrollers, processor scheduling and timing, embedded software, data analysis techniques, and testing methods.
  • Willingness to work off-shift hours on occasion.
  • Interest in aviation and/or aerospace applications.

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $75K to $135K. Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
