Job summary

Paylocity is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, program, and optimize electrical and control systems for automated manufacturing equipment. You will develop schematics, select components, and validate architectures for safe, reliable operation.

You will collaborate with Mechanical Engineering and Project Management, support installation and commissioning, and contribute to continuous improvement across automation platforms and product offerings.

Qualifications

Experience designing, programming, integrating, or troubleshooting industrial control systems and automation equipment.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration across technical and operational teams.
Ability and willingness to travel for customer support, commissioning, and field service activities.

Responsibilities

Design electrical, pneumatic, and fluid control systems for automated manufacturing equipment and industrial automation projects.
Develop electrical schematics, control layouts, and machine documentation using engineering design software.
Program PLC, HMI, robot, drive, and safety control systems.
Prepare technical documentation, specifications, bills of material, and supporting engineering documents.
Develop and validate control system architectures to ensure safe and reliable machine operation.
Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering and other disciplines to support integrated automation solutions.
Research and evaluate new technologies and automation solutions to support operational and product development initiatives.
Support manufacturing and controls installation activities during equipment build and integration.
Integrate, validate, and troubleshoot machine controls, robotic systems, safety circuits, and automation equipment.
Perform commissioning, startup, runoff, and validation activities at internal sites and customer facilities.
Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, software, and automation issues.
Provide technical support for field service and customer troubleshooting.
Support machine modifications, upgrades, and process improvements as required.
