Job summary

Roush in Livonia, MI is seeking a Controls Engineer II to develop and integrate control systems for internal and external projects. You will work with electronics and controls engineers to specify hardware, sensors, actuators, and software, and to model and tune control systems for diverse industries.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in a relevant field, 2+ years of experience in controls, and proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, C, or C++. Travel may be required as part of project work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
• US citizen or lawful permanent resident enabling ITAR compliance.
• Minimum 2 years of post-graduate experience in controls (automotive or military vehicle preferred).
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, C, or C++.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and understand electrical fundamentals.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control system electronics hardware, sensors, and actuators.
• Create system wiring diagrams, connectors, and terminal selections.
• Develop and verify software and control algorithms to meet requirements.

Job Summary:

The Controls Engineer II will work alongside other Electronics and Controls Engineers to develop control systems for internal Roush projects and external customers in various industries. The role will develop, modify, or create control systems through the deployment of hardware and/or software. This position is located in Livonia, MI.

As a Controls Engineer II, you will:

• Capture and document customer system/hardware/software requirements
• Specify, design and develop control system electronics hardware, sensors, and actuators
• Design and develop system wiring, including wiring schematics, conductor, connector and terminal selection
• Design, develop, and verify software and control algorithms to meet requirements
• Develop system plant models for control system development
• Perform data analysis and system control tuning/calibration
• Perform system testing and troubleshooting, ensuring a control system meets requirements
• Effectively interface with co-workers and customers in meetings

To be considered a Controls Engineer II, you will need:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science
• Must be a US citizen or US lawful permanent resident allowing for ITAR compliance
• Minimum 2 years of post-graduate working experience in controls (automotive or military vehicle level preferred)
• Experience with at least one of the following software languages: MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, C, or C++
• Ability to read, understand and create electrical schematics, and a good understanding of electrical and electronics basics
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write concise technical reports
• Initiative to work independently and handle several assignments simultaneously
• Able to manage time to ensure projects are completed by deadline
• Ability to independently absorb new technical assignments
• Must be willing to support limited travel

A successful candidate may also have:

• Experience in embedded systems application and its testing
• Experience with more than one of the following software languages: MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, C, C++, or Python
• Experience with PLC (Allen Bradly, Siemens, etc.) controls and industrial automation
• Experience with CANbus, Serial, and Ethernet communications
