Job summary

FMI is seeking an energetic, organized Controls Engineer to join the Equipment Optimization Team. The role focuses on supporting production systems, designing future automated solutions, and driving improvements in safety, quality, cost, uptime and cycle time.

You will lead automation projects from design to integration, apply Lean/Six Sigma tools, and collaborate with customers and external partners to develop and qualify process changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in EE/ME/IE/CS or related field
• 3+ years in automotive, food, or aerospace OR 5+ years in automation engineering
• Experience with PLCs and control systems
• Experience with high-rate automated production and motion control
• Familiarity with SDLC principles
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles
• Experience with industrial tools and equipment
• Experience writing basic process procedures or instructions

Responsibilities

• Design, improve, document, and troubleshoot custom automation systems
• Develop, implement, and sustain policies and procedures for the technical work in a growing facility
• Lead integration of new systems and automation equipment
• Identify, design, test, and document code/controls improvements using Lean/Six Sigma
• Execute technical assignments with schedule and cost considerations
• Collaborate with internal/external customers to develop/qualify process changes
• Design and develop new equipment for future production systems
• Ensure health and safety policies are integrated from early stages
