Connect Force is seeking a hands-on Controls Engineer for a confidential client in the Metro Detroit area. You will design, develop, and support PLC and HMI control systems for custom machinery, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and machine-build teams.
This role emphasizes ownership from concept through commissioning, troubleshooting on build and test, supporting startup, and mentoring junior engineers. Travel is limited, and a strong hands-on mindset is essential.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Controls/Automation Engineer.
- Experience with PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI development.
- Background in machine build or capital equipment environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support PLC and HMI control systems for custom machinery.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, machine builders, and electrical teams.
- Troubleshoot and debug systems during build, test, and customer acceptance.
- Support machine startup, integration, and commissioning (limited travel).
- Help define controls standards and drive continuous improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in technical decision-making.
