Job summary

Randstad USA outside of Charleston seeks a controls engineer with experience in overhead cranes and PLC programming from scratch. Salary is based on experience and location in Huger, SC. 8am–4pm schedule, permanent position, Bachelor's degree required.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting crane and mobile control systems, updating HMIs, and supporting startup and commissioning of new equipment. Willingness to work overtime is required.

Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting PLC-based crane and mobile control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and PLC programs.
• Knowledge of VFDs and motion control.
• Experience with industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair PLC-based Crane & Mobile control systems, including I/O, field devices, sensors, and actuators.
• Diagnose electrical, control, and automation-related equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor, adjust, and optimize PLC logic to support production performance.
• Support startup, commissioning, and debugging of new crane automation equipment.
• Maintain and update HMI screens, alarms, and data collection systems.
• Troubleshoot VFDs, motion control systems, and industrial communications.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on crane automation and electrical systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, PLC programs, and mechanical drawings.
• Maintain accurate documentation, backups, and change control for PLC programs and automation systems.
• Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including call-ins.
