Job summary

Davies Engineering Group in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Controls Engineer Co-Op to support design and analysis for industrial projects. You will work with lead engineers in a project-focused team, assisting in design tasks and site visits.

The program emphasizes hands-on experience in controls platform selection, PLC/HMI programming, startup, and commissioning, with opportunities to learn 2D/3D AutoCAD and construction methods.

Qualifications

  • Completed first two years towards a BS degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering.
  • Former co-ops or internships are strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including prior experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project engineers with specific design tasks.
  • Assist in concept development, design, and analysis for projects.
  • Visit project sites to determine existing conditions and perform field related engineering services.
  • Exposure to construction administration.
  • Make preliminary equipment selections using manufacturers' information.
  • Prepare designs and details using 2D and 3D AutoCAD.
  • Review technical specifications.
  • Research and learn electrical codes and construction methods.
  • Learn quality control procedures.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Perform concept development, design, and analysis for projects including controls platform selection, controls drawings and diagrams, writing programming for PLC and HMI.
  • Perform startup and commissioning for projects including I/O checkout, program loading and checkout, function checks, troubleshooting, and training.

Davies Engineering is seeking a Controls Engineer Co-Op for design and analysis projects with our industrial clients.

Qualifications:

  • Completed first two years towards a BS degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering degree
  • Former co-ops or internships are strongly preferred
  • Strong computer skills including prior experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as frequent interaction with suppliers, customers, and contractors is required
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and research design issues with available resources
  • Curiosity to learn and grow

Responsibilities:

Candidates work with lead engineers/design specialists as part of project specific teams. Team size varies depending on project size and complexity. Candidates will be trained to plan and carry out all aspects of the design process including:
