Qualifications

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Controls Engineer 1 in Peoria, IL. The position is 100% onsite at the Peoria Proving Ground, working 2nd shift, with significant hands-on machine and outdoor field-testing work. This is an 18-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $43/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

The Controls Engineer 1 will support the validation and testing of multiple machine platforms, with a primary focus on planning and executing data collection runs. This position combines hands-on work with machines, controls systems, software, and field testing to document machine performance and verify intended system behavior. The engineer will prepare machines for testing, troubleshoot system issues, collect and transfer test data, and coordinate closely with engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
• Knowledge of Ethernet and CAN communication and ability to troubleshoot systems.
• Strong computer skills; ability to work with data collection and data transfer processes.
• Strong problem-solving, organization, planning, and communication skills.
• Ability to work 100% onsite and outdoors around machines in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to follow established safety procedures consistently.
• No visa sponsorship is available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Linux.
• Previous internship or hands-on experience involving controls, machine testing, validation, automotive, off-highway equipment, or engineering test environments.
• Experience with software flashing, data acquisition, machine communications, or troubleshooting electrical/controls systems.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to plan and execute structured testing activities.
