Job summary

Metric Geo is seeking a hands-on Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer to join our growing team in the United States. You will commission, test and optimize complex automated manufacturing systems with a focus on industrial paint and finishing applications.

You’ll design and troubleshoot PLC/HMI/VFD/servo networks, perform I/O checks and validation, and support startup activities while collaborating directly with customers and operations teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of controls engineering, commissioning or industrial automation experience.
• Strong Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLC experience is required.
• Experience with HMIs, VFDs, industrial networks and automated equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O lists and control documentation.
• Hands-on troubleshooting and startup experience.
• Experience with paint systems or automotive finishing equipment is a plus.

A growing paint finishing, industrial automation and engineered systems business is looking to add an Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer to its team.

This is a hands-on position supporting the startup, commissioning, testing and optimization of complex automated manufacturing systems, with a particular focus on industrial paint and finishing applications.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Commission, troubleshoot and optimize automated control systems
• Design/program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo and networked systems
• Perform I/O checkout, loop checks, functional testing and system validation
• Support automated paint, finishing, material handling and dispensing systems
• Troubleshoot electrical controls, instrumentation, sensors, valves and field devices
• Support FAT/SAT, startup and customer acceptance activities
• Work directly with customers, operations and maintenance teams during commissioning
• Provide technical support and training following system handover

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of controls engineering, commissioning or industrial automation experience
• Strong Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLC experience
• Experience with HMIs, VFDs, industrial networks and automated equipment
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, I/O lists and control documentation
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting and startup experience
• Experience with industrial paint systems, paint booths, finishing equipment or automotive paint shops is highly desirable
• Siemens and/or Mitsubishi experience is a plus
• Robotics experience is beneficial
• Comfortable traveling 40–50%+, with potentially heavier travel during major startups
