Job summary

Auria is seeking a Controls Engineer for its Saint Clair, Michigan plant to lead electrical and instrumentation improvements across manufacturing lines. You will work with plant teams to troubleshoot, program PLCs and HMIs, and support automation projects with Rockwell, Siemens, Cognex and other vendors.

The role demands a Bachelor of Science in engineering and about five years of related experience, with opportunities for professional development and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing electrical systems and controls is expected.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and improve plant efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve manufacturing issues to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with plant teams on continuous improvement of electrical/instrumentation performance.
  • Participate in engineering teams and provide technical support.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, vision systems and VFDs across vendors (Rockwell, Siemens, Cognex, Keyence, SEW, Lenze).
  • Design and implement electrical systems and test methods.
  • Review electrical plans and reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct tests and inspections of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians; provide information as needed.
  • Maintain equipment by following manufacturer instructions and service protocols.
  • Update product databases with data and documentation.
  • Support management with additional tasks as required.

With U.S.-based operational headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, Auria operates 16 manufacturing, 9 technical and 5 JV locations across 10 countries and employs approximately 3,900 people worldwide. We are currently searching for Controls Engineer to join our team at our Saint Clair Plant in Saint Clair, Michigan.

What you will do:
  • Proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues to support and improve efficiency of the manufacturing facilities
  • Work with plant operational teams to facilitate continuous improvement efforts related to electrical and instrumentation performance
  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to engineering technical support
  • PLC programming, HMI programming, Vision System programming, and VFD configuration (Rockwell, Siemens, Cognex, Keyence, SEW, Lenze)
  • Design and implementation of electrical systems
  • Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs and applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
  • Confirms systems and components’ capabilities by designing testing methods.
  • Develops electrical products by studying customer requirements and researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
  • Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Reviewing electrical engineering plans, specifications, and reports
  • Conducting tests and inspections of electrical systems and equipment
  • Collaborating with engineers and technicians
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures and requesting repair service.
  • Maintains product database by writing computer programs and entering data.
  • Any additional reasonable request deemed necessary by management

What you will bring:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical experience with a minimum of five (5) years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
  • PC Hardware setup, troubleshooting, maintaining
  • Basic LAN knowledge and functionality (TCP/IP)
  • Basic LAN hardware knowledge (switches, cabling, routers)
  • Software installation/upgrading
  • Network printing
  • Basic AD knowledge (disable users, change passwords)
  • Windows 7
  • Installing / troubleshooting label printers and hand held scanners
  • Backup exec (or similar software)
  • Ability to read and update electrical schematic drawings
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems involving Urethane reaction injection molding, Rotational dry cast cells, Vacuum forming, Paint cells, Laser scoring, water jets, sonic and vibration welding and others
  • Experience Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Siemens and Omron PLC/HMI systems
  • Industrial protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, RS-232, Devicenet, DH+
  • Strong deductive reasoning/problem solving skills
  • Visual Basic or other software design is a plus
  • AutoCAD design software
