Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Software & Controls Engineer for a leading industrial automation and robotics organization. This individual will own the controls function for robotic paint and sealer automation projects from initial software development through system startup and customer acceptance.

The role requires strong PLC programming experience, particularly with Rockwell, Siemens, and Mitsubishi platforms, and the ability to develop controls solutions from the ground up.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on PLC programming experience with Siemens, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi platforms.
  • Ability to develop and program new PLC logic from scratch.
  • Experience supporting controls software development through testing, commissioning, and debugging.
  • Experience in execution/project teams within industrial automation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC, HMI, and GUI software for robotic paint and sealer automation systems.
  • Program and debug new PLC functionality from concept through deployment.
  • Maintain and enhance existing controls software across legacy and modern platforms.
  • Develop controls specifications outlining functionality, sequencing, and I/O requirements.
  • Partner with Process Engineers to commission and bring automation systems online.
  • Support integration, testing, and troubleshooting on the production floor.
  • Travel to customer sites for installations, startups, commissioning, and system debug.
  • Support existing installed systems and resolve controls-related issues.
  • Collaborate with controls, electrical, process, and project engineering teams.
  • Participate in runoff/testing, customer acceptance testing, and system validation.
  • Support customer training and knowledge transfer as needed.

Job description

Travel: ~25% throughout North America (possibility of extended travel to UK)

Overtime: As Needed

Compensation:

$48/hr to $53/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.

Must-Haves:
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience with Siemens platforms
  • Ability to develop and program new PLC logic from scratch
  • Experience supporting controls software development through implementation, testing, commissioning, and debugging
  • Experience working within execution/project teams in industrial automation environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within manufacturing or automation settings
  • Ability to write controls specifications, define functional scope, and develop I/O requirements
  • Experience supporting field startups, system integration, and customer-facing deployments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation, status reporting, and technical discussions
Plusses:
  • Experience with Siemens V20
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including potential travel to the UK
  • Visual Basic experience supporting legacy controls systems
  • C# programming experience
  • SQL database management and querying experience
  • Experience with virtual commissioning tools such as Process Simulate or Emulate3D
