Job summary

Axion Recruitment is seeking a Controls Engineer for a leading OEM specializing in custom machinery in the Bucks County area. You will own custom HMI applications and support machine integration projects using Allen-Bradley PLCs, SQL databases, and APIs to third-party devices.

The role offers exposure to advanced automation, industrial networking, and software development within a highly engineered manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience with HMI development and industrial automation systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain HMI applications using Visual Studio and VB.NET or C#.
• Support SQL database integration for recipes, audit trails, and production data.
• Integrate third-party devices via APIs/SDKs and industrial protocols.
• Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers for PLC integration (Allen-Bradley CompactLogix).
• Configure and support machine networking to MES and Active Directory environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software, communication, and integration issues.
• Support machine commissioning and ongoing system improvements.
• Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable automation solutions.

Job description

We are working with a leading OEM specializing in custom machinery that is looking to add a Controls Engineer to its engineering team.

This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of custom HMI applications and support machine integration projects involving Allen-Bradley PLCs, SQL databases, and third-party devices.

The role provides exposure to advanced automation systems, industrial networking, and software development within a highly engineered manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain HMI applications using Microsoft Visual Studio and VB.NET
• Support SQL database integration for recipes, audit trails, production data, and system settings
• Integrate third-party devices including vision systems, inspection cameras, and laser controllers through APIs and SDKs
• Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to support Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC integration
• Configure and support machine networking to MES systems and Active Directory environments
• Troubleshoot and resolve software, communication, and integration issues
• Support machine commissioning and ongoing system improvements
• Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable automation solutions

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proficiency in Visual Basic .NET or C# with the ability to work in VB.NET
• Experience with SQL database development preferred
• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, particularly CompactLogix
• Experience integrating external hardware using APIs, SDKs, and industrial communication protocols
• Understanding of industrial networking including Ethernet/IP and TCP/IP
• Experience working within a manufacturing or automation environment preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
• Experience with HMI development and industrial automation systems preferred
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
