Job summary

Emerge is seeking a Controls Engineer / Manufacturing Automation Project Engineer for Wellsboro or Coudersport, PA. You will lead automation projects, specify equipment, and improve process capability in a growing, technology-driven manufacturing environment.

You will partner with vendors and internal teams, support new product introductions, ensure ITAR compliance, and help drive manufacturing readiness while delivering reliable, efficient automation solutions.

Qualifications

  • Two‑year or four‑year degree in a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience with industrial control systems and automation.
  • Ability to write and maintain technical documentation and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead automation projects from concept through installation and validation.
  • Specify equipment, lead testing, and coordinate with vendors.
  • Support new process implementation and manufacturing readiness for new products.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and mechanical teams to improve reliability.
  • Ensure ITAR compliance and proper documentation.

Job description

Emerge is currently recruiting qualified candidates for a direct hire Controls Engineer / Manufacturing Automation Project Engineer job in Wellsboro or Coudersport, PA for our client, a growing and technology-driven manufacturer. This role will serve as a key technical resource for manufacturing methods, automation strategy, equipment selection, and process capability improvement. Essentially a Controls Engineer, the Manufacturing Automation Project Engineer will lead automation and equipment-related projects, support new process implementation, work closely with vendors and internal teams, and help drive manufacturing readiness for new product introductions. Our client offers a salary of $100,000 to $135,000 based on experience and the location. Relocation package and excellent benefits package are available.

Responsibilities for the Controls Engineer / Manufacturing Automation Project Engineer job in Coudersport or Wellsboro, PA include:
  • Serve as a technical leader for manufacturing processes, automation systems, equipment selection, and process capability improvements
  • Support development of long‑term manufacturing technology plans involving automation, robotics, digital manufacturing, and advanced process controls
  • Lead equipment‑related projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and validation
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors on schedules, performance, factory acceptance testing, and site acceptance activities
  • Research and implement advanced manufacturing technologies, including automated process and material handling solutions
  • Partner with maintenance and mechanical teams to troubleshoot recurring equipment issues and improve long‑term system performance
  • Document best practices and provide training to support equipment reliability and process consistency
  • Lead cross‑functional efforts related to equipment changes, process improvements, and manufacturing layout updates
  • Mentor and support Manufacturing Process Engineers and Process Specialists by providing technical guidance and project leadership
  • Help prepare manufacturing operations for new product introduction by supporting quality, throughput, and process readiness
  • Ensure compliance with applicable technology control and export control requirements
Qualifications
  • Two‑year or four‑year degree in Electro‑Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience with industrial control systems is preferred Experience with automated equipment that includes programmable logic controllers, stepper and servo control systems, HMI systems, and Fanuc robots
  • Rockwell Automation or Allen Bradley experience is preferred
  • Ability to write, review, and maintain technical and process documentation
  • Ability to create and modify schematic drawings using AutoCAD
  • SolidWorks 3D CAD experience is preferred
  • Proficiency with PLC ladder logic, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation
  • Hands‑on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills are preferred
  • Experience leading manufacturing or automation‑related projects
  • Strong communication, technical problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • This position is subject to ITAR compliance: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status; ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder "), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
