Job description

Our client is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference, underpinned by an expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

They're looking for a Controls Engineer to lead their efforts around the design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of automation and controls systems across their liquid and air-cooled HPC data centers, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering.

This is a genuine hands-on opportunity to be the go-to controls and automation authority on live, mission-critical projects, working directly with mechanical and electrical engineering to shape how these facilities are integrated and run, in a hyperscale AI infrastructure business at a genuinely exciting stage of its growth. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for controls and automation across all stages of HPC data center project development, from design through commissioning
  • Develop a coherent controls philosophy for the mechanical and electrical systems in use, enabling seamless integration and efficient operation
  • Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure new equipment and changing operational requirements are properly translated into control designs and systems
  • Ensure new equipment and systems integrate seamlessly with DCIM and enterprise monitoring platforms, including energy and alarm management
  • Coach and train other staff on the theory, design and use of control systems and tools
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in controls and automation, keeping the business at the leading edge of design and operational excellence
Skills/Must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical engineering discipline, with 10+ years' experience in controls and automation within heavy industrial or mission-critical settings
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical cooling systems, their field devices, sensors/actuators and control/monitoring wiring methods
  • Solid grounding in PLCs, SCADA systems and industrial network communication protocols
  • Sound understanding of control theory (PID loops, ON/OFF control with hysteresis, scaled inputs, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills across all levels of the business
  • Self-driven and comfortable with uncertainty and limited direction, with strong attention to detail
  • Relocation Package
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Restricted stock (equity) vesting over three years and growing in value as the company scales
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental and vision premiums for employees, 75% for dependents
