Job summary

Vertiv is seeking an Embedded Controls Engineer (Linux) to design, develop, and maintain thermal control firmware, focusing on embedded Linux environments and PID-based device interactions. The role involves hands-on programming and hardware collaboration across TI SoC, ARM, and x86 platforms.

Qualifications include a BS in CS/SE/EE, 1+ years in embedded Linux PLC firmware, and fluency in English. HVAC knowledge is highly desirable; Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of experience with embedded Linux-based controls PLC firmware development.
• Knowledge of PLC languages, C/C++, Python, Bash Shell, JavaScript/HTML.
• HVAC knowledge is highly desirable.
• English fluency required; Spanish preferred.

• Follow full lifecycle development: design, programming, debugging, testing, and documentation.
• Coordinate with project management to develop test plans and provide accurate time estimates.
• Troubleshoot issues in existing systems and environments.
• Support product testing, witness testing, and field startup activities.
• Produce technical writing including documentation and service guides.
• Provide hardware development support as needed.

Embedded Controls Engineer (Linux)

We are seeking an embedded Controls Engineer (Linux) who will support our thermal controls applications. This candidate will have a deep knowledge of embedded Linux application development and maintenance. HVAC specific knowledge is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and support thermal unit control firmware involving PID loops and other device interactions and control based on defined requirements and specifications
• Follow full lifecycle application development practices including design, programming with commentary, debugging, peer review, unit testing, performance tuning, and integration
• Work with project management and scrum master to develop test plans, execution backlogs, and provide accurate time estimates to complete your tasks
• Troubleshoot issues with already existing systems
• Product testing, customer witness testing, and field startup support
• Technical writing including documentation, user guides, and service guides
• Hardware development support

Development Environment

• Languages: C++, C, Python, Bash Shell
• Communication protocols: RS‑232/485, Modbus, CANbus, I2C, SPI
• Operating systems: embedded Linux and real‑time operating systems

Design

• Near real time control algorithm and device communications using serial, RS485, Modbus, and CANbus
• Maintainability and configurability

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent with strong emphasis on embedded software: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
• 1+ years of experience with embedded Linux‑based controls PLC firmware development
• Knowledge of basic programming languages (PLC, Structured Text, C/C++, Javascript, HTML, Python, Bash Shell)
• HVAC knowledge is highly desired
• Fluency in English required
• Fluency in Spanish preferred

• 5% international travel required
