Job description

Base pay range

$40.00/hr - $55.00/hr

Scope of Function:

Under administrative review, designs and develops all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment and machinery. May be responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software. A CDE II is familiar with standard concepts and practices, and is expected to display more than the minimum experience in the controls industry.

Experience working on Industrial Manufacturing Process Projects is highly desirable. Continuous process using temperature, pressure, speed, values, mixing and numbers, for example painting cars, missing chemicals etc.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology diploma or equivalents, normally with 3 - 7 years’ related working experience from the graduation level.
  • Applicant must demonstrate efficiency in troubleshooting existing control systems and equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to Project Management and customers are required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is required.
Breakdown of Focus Areas:
  • Up to 20% of time spent in Client/People Management.
  • Up to 30% of time spent as a Solutions Architect (building a framework to meet customer needs and applies appropriate industry standards).
  • 50% of time spent as a developer (builds and programs actual system components and follows applicable standards, as directed by Project Managers).
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Sets an example to other employees by means of arriving promptly on schedule, keeping a neat and organized work area, and maintaining a personal calendar, journal and task list.
  2. Meets weekly with Project Managers for a detailed review of all current tasks and projects. Purpose of review is to ensure adherence to companies specified method, practice, and procedure.
  3. Has an established foundation of engineering concepts, and continues to strive to grow technically and professionally.
  4. Maintains a self-directed enthusiasm for new concepts and technologies, utilizing all unassigned time for training exercises and shadowing experienced Engineers.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to design controls systems from scratch, with limited assistance from Project Managers.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to develop PLC software from scratch (ideally Rockwell PLCs), citing the OTI software standards.
  7. Communicates often and effectively with customers.
  8. Project Specific Activities: Review and understand scope of supply, budget, and schedule of assigned projects.
  9. Report and document budget and scope issues, as well as create and submit Engineering Change Requests and Purchase Order Requisitions to Project Managers when required.
  10. Schedule Design Reviews with Project Managers before the completion of each project phase, on or before the scheduled milestone dates.
  11. Concept and Design complete Hardwire Control Systems with little Management assistance.
  12. Create and implement efficient software solutions utilizing OTI software standards.
  13. Understand and implement effective safety solutions.
  14. Understand and apply the use of core controls systems into designs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Conducts successful installation, commissioning, operation, troubleshooting/testing/debug, and support of advanced automation projects with limited assistance.
  • Ability to be responsive to customers’ demands and requirements.
  • Ability to seek out solutions to problems with Management assistance.
  • Individual is considered experienced in at least one (1) software platform.
  • Individual has experience in at least one (1) common peripheral equipment platform (Robotics, Vision, etc).
  • Experience in either the Automotive, Food and Beverage, Waste Water or Power Plant and Utilities markets is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Automation or Process projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience with any type of paint finishing experience is highly desirable.
Compensation:
  • $40 - $55 an hour (depending on experience)
  • Overtime available after 40 hours
  • Weekly pay role
  • Yearly bonus program (equivalent to 1 extra month’s salary per year)
