Job summary

BlueScope Coated Products, LLC is seeking a skilled Industrial Electrical Maintenance Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control systems across our coating operations. You will diagnose PLC-driven malfunctions, perform preventive maintenance, and support safe, reliable production lines.

The role requires a Journeyman license with 5+ years in industrial settings, strong reading of blueprints, and the ability to work physically demanding shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED as a baseline credential.
  • Journeyman license with 5+ years in industrial electrical maintenance.
  • PLC experience with Allen Bradley platforms and related tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Proven fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 75 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions using PLC techniques and electrical knowledge.
  • Perform preventive and emergency maintenance as required.
  • Install or assist in new equipment layout and alignment.
  • Communicate repair steps, parts, and timelines to plant personnel.
  • Contribute to safety, quality, productivity, and reliability improvements.

Key Focus Areas
  • Troubleshoot, repair, problem-solve, and maintain all electrical control problems for all manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshooting machine malfunctions using electronic and PLC techniques
  • Performs routine, emergency, and preventive maintenance on all electrical equipment/parts.
  • Study equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Install or assist in the installation of new equipment, including proper layout and alignment.
  • Makes preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on time.
  • Identify, research, prepare and present solutions to control problems and continuous improvement projects.
  • Evaluate equipment malfunctions with a sense of urgency to minimize downtime.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Modify equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
  • Roll Grinder duties including safely preparing applicator and squeegee rolls per standard work to support coating quality and paint line production
  • Perform tasks in a quality fashion by meeting or exceeding the internal customers' requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with plant personnel as to the important repair steps taken, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete the repairs or projects.
  • Maintains proper housekeeping expectation for work area, equipment and tools.
  • Engages in cross-functional maintenance training and knowledge sharing to strengthen team capability and operational resilience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Foundational Experience Required Qualifications & Experience
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Journeyman licensed with 5+ years of experience in an industrial electrical maintenance position.
  • PLC experience, preferably Allen Bradley such as SLC 500, RSlogix 5/500/5000, PLC5, ControlLogix, Micrologix, and Panelview systems Strong electrical knowledge (circuit breakers and fixtures).
  • Demonstrated fault finding experience.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficient communication skills – particularly, the ability to explain complex electrical issues.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work, such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and bending for extended periods of time.
  • Reliability, dependability, and self-motivation.

  • Metals, coating, roll forming or industrial maintenance experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates strong computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use new systems.
  • Demonstrates strong practical aptitude in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues; able to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Good, professional communication skills
  • Ability to learn processes, equipment specifications, and company standards through active use of resources, manuals, training, policies, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test as a condition of employment
Work Environment
  • The employee may be required to enter areas that are near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, and extreme cold or heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate and may require the use of hearing protection.
  • The employee will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance.
  • The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
