Job summary

Edison Smart is seeking a Controls Engineer for an on-site role in Miami. You will maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade existing automation systems in a highly automated facility, focusing on reliability and performance improvements.

This hands-on position involves close collaboration with engineers, technicians and vendors to keep equipment operating at peak efficiency. The ideal candidate has 1–5 years in industrial controls, strong AC/DC knowledge, and experience with Allen-Bradley Rockwell

Qualifications

• 1–5 years' experience in industrial controls, automation or related engineering discipline.
• Strong practical experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, ideally ControlLogix or CompactLogix.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment in an industrial environment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet or Modbus.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC and automation system faults.
• Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs and control logic.

We’re working with a global organisation looking for a Controls Engineer to join their automation team in Miami.

The role will be based at an established, highly automated facility and will focus on maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading existing automation systems.

The facility has been operational for around 10 years and is now reaching a point where increased system failures and aging equipment require additional controls expertise to improve reliability and performance.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys being close to the equipment, solving problems and improving automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose PLC and automation system faults.
• Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs and control logic.
• Work primarily with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLC systems.
• Support system health checks and identify areas for improvement.
• Assist with upgrades and modifications to existing automation infrastructure.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
• Work with internal engineering teams, technicians, vendors and system integrators.
• Assist with system documentation, drawings and technical evaluations.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, uptime and overall equipment performance.

Required

• 1–5 years' experience in industrial controls, automation or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong practical experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLCs, ideally ControlLogix or CompactLogix.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment in an industrial environment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with sensors, VFDs, pneumatics and electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet or Modbus.
• Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics or related degree or equivalent hands‑on experience.

Preferred

• Experience within material handling, warehouse automation, robotics, conveyors, AGVs/AMRs or similar environments.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as FactoryTalk View, Ignition or WinCC.
• Experience modifying or working with control panels.
• Knowledge of industrial machinery safety standards.
• Experience working in a high-volume automated facility.
• Experience with commissioning, system upgrades or equipment integration.
