Job summary

Goldman Sachs in Jersey City, NJ, seeks a finance professional to join the AWM Public Product Control team. You will oversee valuations of private equity and debt investments, support investor reporting, and interact with portfolio managers, Fund Accounting, Operations and risk groups.

Qualifications

  • Finance or accounting degree required; CPA/CFA or MBA preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant work experience in public and/or private investments.
  • Knowledge of private equity and private debt valuations (market, DCF, liquidation).
  • Strong understanding of WACC, CAPM, and contingent claims analysis models.
  • Strong understanding of equities markets and the alternative investment management industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Knowledge of valuation accounting disclosures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; experience presenting to senior managers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment; multitasking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee quarterly valuation for private equity, debt and GP stake positions; analyze financials and use DCF and market approaches.
  • Contribute to independent third‑party valuation processes.
  • Assist with external/internal audit reviews.
  • Prepare investor and regulatory reporting and disclosures for financial statements.
  • Present valuation committee materials.
  • Daily interaction with portfolio managers, Fund Accounting & Operations.
  • Develop a broad understanding of private equity markets and the alternative asset management industry.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work within the AWM (Asset & Wealth Management) Public Product Control team, which is responsible for oversight of private equity and debt valuations within the External Investing Group(“XIG")).

Summary

The successful candidate will work within the AWM (Asset & Wealth Management) Public Product Control team, which is responsible for oversight of private equity and debt valuations within the External Investing Group(“XIG")).

They will be responsible for the price verification of private investments; primarily private equity investments.

They will interact with Controller’s management, the portfolio management team and traders, as well as support areas such as Operations, Risk, Technology, Fund Accounting, Legal, Compliance and Investor Relations.

They will be responsible for investor and regulatory reporting.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Responsible for oversight of the quarterly valuation process for private equity, debt and general partner stake positions, including financials statement analysis, discounted cash flow and market approaches
  • Involvement in independent third-party valuation processes
  • Involvement in external/internal Audit review process
  • Responsible for investor and regulatory reporting along with disclosures for financial statements
  • Responsible for valuation committee presentations
  • Daily interaction with portfolio managers, Fund Accounting & Operations
  • Develop a broad understanding of private equity markets and alternative asset management industry
Experience / Skills
  • Degree in Finance / Accounting, CPA/CFA or MBA preferred
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience (public and/or private)
  • Working knowledge of Private Equity and Private Debt valuations, including knowledge of market approach, DCF, liquidation approach etc.
  • A strong understanding of WACC, CAPM and Contingent Claims Analysis models
  • A strong understanding of Equities markets and the alternative investment management industry
  • Extensive Microsoft Office experience (Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
  • A strong understanding of valuation accounting disclosures
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written communication) skills, including experience presenting/communicating with senior managers
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Results driven and great multitasking skills
Salary Range

The expected base salary for this Jersey City, NJ, United States-based position is $85000-$140000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
