Job summary

AQFS in Canton, Ohio is seeking a Controller / Senior Bookkeeper to own day-to-day accounting and drive financial operations as the company grows.

This hands-on role offers a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days from home) and a salary of $110,000–$130,000, with incentive opportunities and growth potential.

You will lead core accounting functions, strengthen financial reporting, and contribute to process improvements, while keeping a voice in shaping the company's future.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience owning day-to-day accounting operations.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred.
• Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
• Experience in public accounting or a CPA firm is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting operations.

• Reconcile bank statements and cash accounts.

What You’ll Do

You’ll take ownership of the company’s day-to-day accounting operations.

This is a hands‑on position where you will both perform and oversee core accounting functions.

• Manage and perform accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Reconcile bank statements and cash accounts
• Prepare general ledger entries and month‑end adjustments
• Assist with payroll processing and accuracy checks
• Support monthly financial reporting and account reconciliations
• Assist with audit preparation and financial documentation
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records
• Support accounting and finance projects
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency
• Help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial information
• Take ownership of day‑to‑day accounting operations and processes

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience taking ownership of day‑to‑day accounting operations
• Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar experience preferred
• Strong Excel and accounting software skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organization
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with the team
• Willingness and ability to remain hands‑on with day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred
• Experience in public accounting or a CPA firm is a plus, but not required
