Job description

We are seeking a seasoned Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a dynamic portfolio of industrial and manufacturing businesses, based on United States and Canada, each with annual revenues between $10M and $50M. This is a remote position with occasional travel for site visits and leadership meetings. The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader who thrives in a multi-entity environment and is passionate about building scalable systems in growing, operationally complex companies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple portfolio companies
• Prepare and present consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and integrity in financial reporting

Accounting Operations

• Oversee AR, AP, payroll, inventory, and cost accounting across sites
• Implement best practices and efficiencies across accounting functions
• Manage ERP systems and support data migration or upgrades as needed

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Collaborate with business unit leaders to develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts
• Monitor actuals vs. budget and provide variance analysis and actionable insights

Audit, Tax & Compliance

• Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filings
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations
• Support due diligence and integration efforts for acquisitions or divestitures
• Manage and mentor accounting staff across portfolio companies
• Partner with FP&A, operations, and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA preferred
• Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting/controllership experience, including 3+ years in a multi-entity industrial or manufacturing environment
• Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and revenue recognition in a manufacturing context
• Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Excel skills
• Experience with private equity-backed or growth-stage companies preferred
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly to non-financial stakeholders
• Cross-Border accounting experience an asset but not required
• Comfortable operating autonomously in a remote-first environment with occasional travel (10–15%)
