Talent Edge Recruiting represents a well-established commercial construction client in the Bay Area seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function. This hands-on role requires close attention to detail as you oversee payroll, AP/AR, financials, and insurance while guiding a small staff.

You will own payroll processing, vendor management, month-end close, and WIP reporting with an emphasis on accuracy and timely reporting for multiple projects ranging from small to large-scale

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience in commercial construction.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Prior experience leading a team.
• Strong grasp of WIP reporting, job costing, and backlog analysis.

Responsibilities

• Payroll — timecards, processing, workers' comp, 401(k), quarterly/year-end reporting.
• Accounts Payable — checks, lien releases, 1099s, vendor setup, credit card management.
• Accounts Receivable — billing, invoice tracking, deposits, monthly close.
• Banking & cash flow — reconciliations and cash management.
• Financials — year-end close, WIP reporting, backlog analysis, journal entries.
• Insurance — renewals, COIs, audits, workers' comp, general liability.
• Team leadership — overseeing a small accounting staff (3 direct reports).

My client is a well-established commercial construction company (~$125M in annual revenue, ~25 active projects at any given time ranging from $250K–$60M, all across the Bay Area) looking for an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in accuracy — you'll oversee a small accounting team while staying close to the day-to-day details of payroll, AP/AR, financials, and insurance.

What you'll own:

• Payroll — timecards, processing, workers' comp, 401(k), quarterly/year-end reporting, new hire & new-year setup (via Centrally HR/CBIZ)
• Accounts Payable — checks, lien releases, 1099s, vendor setup, credit card management (via GCPay)
• Accounts Receivable — billing, invoice tracking & follow-up, deposits, monthly close, reporting
• Banking & cash flow — reconciliations and cash management
• Financials — year-end close, WIP reporting, job costing, backlog analysis, journal entries, working with our outside CPA firm
• Insurance — renewals, COIs, audits, workers' comp, general liability, and compliance
• Team leadership — overseeing a small, accuracy-focused accounting staff (3 direct reports)
• Systems: Sage 100, GCPay, Centrally HR (CBIZ), Microsoft Office

What you'll need:
