Job summary

CLA is seeking a Construction Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) to be based in the Lakeland or Tampa, Florida office. You will lead internal controls, budgeting, and financial planning for construction clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of accounting/finance experience in construction, with CPA preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; combination of related experience and training may be accepted.
• 7 years of relevant accounting/financial experience; construction industry experience preferred.
• CPA certification is preferred but not required; QuickBooks experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related software.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities; prepare financial information.
• Prepare and direct preparation of financial statements, reports, and forecasts for regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate financing needs and investment of surpluses; make recommendations.
• Monitor KPIs and financial staff performance; implement improvements.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and stakeholders; assist with board presentations.

We are looking to hire a Construction Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) who can work in our Lakeland or Tampa, Florida office. CAAS helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Job Description

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (Construction industry and back-office accounting experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
• Travel: This position requires frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
