Job summary

CLA is seeking a Construction Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service to support operations in Lakeland or Tampa, Florida. The role emphasizes internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting for construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and about seven years of relevant experience; CPA is preferred but not mandatory. Travel to client sites is frequent, and ERP/QuickBooks/Excel proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7 years of accounting/financial experience, construction industry preferred.
• QuickBooks experience preferred; proficiency in Excel and MS Office needed.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies and procedures for budgeting, cash management, and accounting.
• Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and investment activities; prepare financial information.
• Prepare and direct financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and reports for regulators.
• Evaluate funding needs and investment of surpluses; make recommendations.
• Monitor KPIs and accounting staff performance; implement improvements.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and actions.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, and investors; prepare board presentations.

We are looking to hire a Construction Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) who can work in our Lakeland or Tampa, Florida office. CAAS helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Job Description

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (Construction industry and back-office accounting experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
• Travel: This position requires frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business‑related purposes.

• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
