Job summary

IB Abel is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and strengthen internal controls. You will partner with the VP Finance/CFO on planning, analysis, and strategic decision-making to support growth and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting leadership, payroll experience, and a solid background in GAAP and financial reporting within a dynamic contracting environment. Hybrid work options and competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting required.
• 5+ years of accounting experience with progressive leadership experience.
• Union payroll processing experience preferred.
• Experience with multi-state payroll taxes and applicable regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office; experience with accounting software/databases.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the accounting team with focus on accuracy and continuous improvement.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Ensure compliance with audit, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, GL activity, and schedules.
• Oversee job cost reporting, WIP, and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Manage AP/AR, cash receipts, GL, and revenue recognition.
• Review AP checks and capitalization/depreciation of assets.
• Monitor revenue/expense variances and collaborate with external advisors.

The Opportunity

Join a growing and dynamic electrical contractor where your financial expertise will help drive business success. As a key member of our finance leadership team, the Controller will lead day-to-day accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and maintain strong internal controls. Partnering closely with the VP Finance/CFO, this role plays a critical part in financial planning, analysis, and strategic decision-making while supporting the continued growth and operational excellence of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop the accounting team with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Ensure compliance with audit, tax, and regulatory requirements
• Manage and execute timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules
• Ensure accuracy of job cost reporting, WIP schedules, andcost-to-complete estimates
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, and revenue recognition
• Review and approve accounts payable check runs prepared by AP Manager
• Verify capitalization and depreciation of fixed assets
• Monitor and analyze revenue and expense variances
• Collaborate with external advisors to manage income, business privilege, and other non-payroll tax filings
• Ensure filings and payments are submitted accurately and on a timely basis
• Support insurance renewals by preparing required financial documentation and supplemental schedules
• Collaborate with VP Finance / CFO on banking relationships, treasury functions, and financing activities

Who We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting along with 5 years of relevant accounting experience and progressive leadership experience (some public accounting experience preferred).
• Union payroll processing preferred and experience filing multi-state payroll taxes.
• Advanced computer skills in MS Office applications, accounting software and databases (Vista Viewpoint desirable).
• Ability to manipulate large amounts of data with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
• Ability to direct and supervise.
• Local to York, Pennsylvania with occasional travel to other offices or offsite meetings (flexibility to work from home when appropriate).
• A "can-do" attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.
