Job summary

IB Abel’s is seeking a hands-on Controller to partner with the Vice President of Finance in York, PA. Lead a growing finance team, own the close process, and drive improvements across accounting operations to support rapid company growth.

The role requires strong accounting fundamentals, leadership experience, and the ability to travel to York, PA three days a week. A Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance and experience with construction or project accounting are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• At least 5 years progressive accounting experience including leading people.
• Public accounting background preferred but not required.
• Strong command of accounting principles and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of 7–12 reports, coaching and accountability.
• Own monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close with accurate financials.
• Drive process improvements, automation, and efficiencies across close and accounting operations.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Manage annual audit relationship and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Prepare financial statements, GL activity, and schedules.
• Ensure accuracy of job cost reporting, WIP, and revenue recognition.
• Oversee AP/AR, cash receipts, and GL including AP checks.

Join a growing and dynamic electrical contractor where your financial expertise will help drive business success.We’re looking for a Controller to be the Vice Presidnet of Finance’s right-hand partner: someone who meets close deadlines, drives process improvements, develops their team, and carries our culture. IB Abel has a clear plan to double the business over the next five years, and this role will help build the finance function to get there.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of 7–12 direct and indirect reports, building the bench through coaching and accountability
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close and deliver accurate, on‑time financials
• Drive process improvements, automation, and efficiencies across close and accounting operations
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Manage the annual audit relationship and ensure compliance with audit, tax, and regulatory requirements
• Prepare and review financial statements, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules
• Ensure accuracy of job cost reporting, WIP schedules, cost‑to‑complete estimates, and revenue recognition
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and the general ledger, including review and approval of AP check runs
• Verify capitalization and depreciation of fixed assets
• Work with external advisors on income, business privilege, and other non‑payroll tax filings, and ensure timely, accurate filings and payments
• Prepare financial documentation and schedules for insurance renewals
• Partner with operations leaders to support the business as it grows

Who We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• At least 2 years of public accounting experience preferred, not required
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including leading people
• A track record of running a monthly close and working with external auditors
• Construction or project‑based accounting experience preferred, not required
• Vista/Viewpoint experience preferred, not required
• Strong command of accounting principles and standards
• Advanced Excel skills
• A direct communicator who holds a high standard, isn’t afraid to push back, and reads the room to bring people along
• Someone who enjoys developing people and building better processes
• Ability to travel to York, PA three (3) days a week
