Remote (U.S.) | Full-time | Reports to the CFO
About the opportunity
A new commercial bank in the pre-opening stage, backed by a publicly listed parent company, is assembling its founding leadership team ahead of FDIC approval. We are looking for a Controller to build the bank's accounting function from the ground up. This is a rare chance to join at the foundation and help shape a new American banking institution.
What you'll do
- Oversee the full accounting function: general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and the month-end and year-end close
- Prepare financial statements under US GAAP and the Call Reports (FFIEC 041/051), plus all other FDIC, Federal Reserve, and state regulatory filings
- Prepare the financial reporting packages required by the Nasdaq-listed parent company
- Design and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, along with accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards including ASC 326 (CECL) and ASC 842 (Leases)
- Manage the external audit and the tax compliance function, including relationships with outside advisors
- Select and implement the general ledger, regulatory reporting platform, and consolidation tools, integrated with the core banking platform
- Support regulatory examinations on accounting and financial reporting
- Work with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning, and with the Treasurer on cash management and investment accounting
- Build and mentor the accounting team as the bank grows
What we're looking for
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience at a commercial bank or financial institution
- Direct experience with bank accounting and regulatory reporting, ideally at a bank under $1 billion in assets or an early-stage growth bank
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, CECL, and FFIEC Call Report preparation
- Experience with the reporting requirements of a Nasdaq-listed or similar publicly listed parent
- Experience designing internal controls over financial reporting in a banking environment
- Experience managing external auditors and supporting regulatory examinations
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
- Public accounting experience at a Big 4 or large firm
We are an equal opportunity employer.
