Controller – Manufacturing & Accounting Operations
The Opportunity
Headquartered in Fenton, Missouri, Carr Textile and RM COCO Décor Ltd. are a multi-company manufacturing and distribution organization with approximately 185 employees and three manufacturing facilities. We provide fabrics, sewn products, plastic-extruded products, and digital fabric printing to the apparel and home-furnishings industries.
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead, manage, and improve accounting across our companies and locations. This position reports to the President & CEO and serves as the accounting leader on the EOS Leadership Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controller, Plant Controller, Assistant Controller, Cost Accounting Manager, or Accounting Manager who is ready for broader responsibility and still enjoys digging into the work. You will lead the accounting team, own the close, strengthen manufacturing cost and inventory accounting, improve systems and processes, and turn financial information into practical operating improvements.
What You Will Do
Lead the Accounting Team
- Directly manage accounting employees across multiple companies and locations, setting clear responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Understand each employee’s workload, capabilities, and capacity; coach the team and address performance or role-fit issues.
- Document critical processes, cross-train employees, and establish dependable backup coverage.
- Remain close enough to the work to train, review, troubleshoot, and personally back up payroll, AP, reconciliations, cash receipts, and month-end responsibilities when needed.
Own Accounting Operations
- Own the general ledger and monthly/year-end close, including reconciliations, accruals, intercompany activity, fixed assets, consolidations, and financial statements.
- Ensure accurate and timely AP, AR, payroll accounting, credit and collections, commissions, sales/use tax, and supporting records.
- Strengthen accounting policies, approval procedures, internal controls, segregation of duties, and audit/tax support.
Improve Manufacturing Costs, Inventory & Profitability
- Develop and maintain reliable product costs across manufacturing, converting, distribution, sewn products, extrusion, and digital printing.
- Analyze material, labor, overhead, freight, scrap, yield, and production variances and work with Operations on corrective action.
- Improve inventory valuation, cycle counts, physical inventories, reserves, work in process, obsolete inventory, and inventory turns.
- Analyze margins by company, product, customer, channel, and location and identify measurable ways to improve pricing, productivity, purchasing, and expenses.
Build Better Planning, Systems & Analysis
- Lead the annual operating budget, forecasting, variance analysis, KPIs, and EOS scorecards.
- Serve as the accounting leader on the EOS Leadership Team; actively participate in L10 meetings, Rocks, scorecards, issue solving, and planning, and own assigned accounting and financial priorities through completion.
- Own accounting’s effective use of ERP, payroll, reporting, and related systems; lead accounting-related ERP improvements from requirements through implementation and stabilization.
- Simplify and automate paper-heavy, duplicative, manual, and error-prone workflows.
- Use AI tools proficiently and responsibly to expand accounting capacity, accelerate analysis and reporting, automate appropriate routine work, and identify exceptions and trends—while protecting confidential information and maintaining human review and sound controls.
- Lead accounting integration for acquisitions and visit company or acquired locations as needed to assess people, processes, records, and capacity firsthand.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the close, financial reporting, controls, and staff leadership.
- Strong hands-on manufacturing cost-accounting and inventory-accounting experience.
- Demonstrated success developing employees, improving accounting processes, and implementing or improving ERP systems.
- Strong Excel, budgeting, forecasting, KPI, and analytical skills, with the ability to turn transaction detail into practical operating action.
- Proficiency applying AI tools to accounting workflows, research, analysis, reporting, documentation, and automation with appropriate attention to accuracy, confidentiality, controls, and verification.
- Working knowledge of payroll accounting, AP, AR, credit and collections, fixed assets, and sales/use tax.
- Willingness to travel among Fenton, Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Dallas, and future company or acquisition locations as needed.
The Right Fit
You are visible, accountable, practical, and service-oriented. You enjoy developing people, solving messy problems, completing priorities, and improving how work gets done. You are comfortable moving between financial analysis and transaction detail—and you believe that when something critical is broken in accounting, you own it until it is fixed.
This is not a traditional CFO role. Ownership retains responsibility for banking relationships, borrowing, financing, investments, capital allocation, and acquisition strategy. The Controller’s focus is leading the accounting organization and improving its people, processes, systems, reporting, payroll/HR, and business contribution.
