Job summary

RIMEPRO INC, a growing commercial general contractor in the South Bay, seeks a Controller to lead all accounting and finance functions and manage a small team. You will report to the CFO and drive payroll, AR/AP, cash flow, and year-end close while coordinating with the CPA firm on taxes.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction accounting, deep WIP and backlog analysis experience, and strong Excel skills. CA driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA a plus.
• 5+ years of accounting in the construction industry.
• Strong WIP reporting, job costing, backlog analysis experience.
• Experience leading an accounting team.
• Knowledge of legal/risk/insurance and banking is desirable.
• Sage 100 Contractor and GCPay experience a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills; strong communication.
• Discretion handling confidential information.
• Highly organized, independent, deadline-driven.
• Valid California driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Payroll oversight including timecards, payroll processing, and related reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable processes, vendor setup, and payments.
• Manage accounts receivable, billing, and monthly close/reporting.
• Daily/monthly banking reconciliations and cash flow management.
• Own year-end close, WIP reporting, job costing, backlog analysis; coordinate tax filings.
• Oversee insurance renewals, COIs, workers' comp, GL, and compliance for subs.

Controller – Commercial General Contractor

Location: San Jose, CA (South Bay) | On-site, not remote

Type: Full-time, exempt

Compensation: Competitive base salary + discretionary bonus

About the Company

Our client is a well-established, growing commercial general contractor in the South Bay. They build life science, ground-up commercial and industrial, tenant improvement, and seismic/structural projects. The leadership team fosters a collaborative workplace built on open communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.

The Opportunity

The Controller will oversee all aspects of the company's accounting and finance functions and lead a small accounting team. The role reports directly to the CFO.

Key Responsibilities

• Payroll: Oversee timecards, payroll processing, workers' comp, 401(k), quarterly and year-end reporting, new employee setup, and new-year setup (processed through an outside payroll provider)
• Accounts Payable: Oversee check processing, lien releases, 1099 filing, new vendor setup, and credit card payments and management (GCPay is used to automate sub pay apps, lien releases, and COIs)
• Accounts Receivable: Manage billing packages, outstanding invoice tracking, bank deposits, AR follow-up, and monthly close and reporting
• Banking & Cash: Perform daily and monthly reconciliations and manage cash flow
• Financials: Own year-end close, WIP reporting, job costing, backlog analysis, adjusting journal entries, and account reviews; coordinate with the outside CPA firm on tax filings and payments
• Insurance: Manage company renewals, COIs, year-end audits, workers' comp, general liability, and insurance compliance for the company and its subcontractors

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA a plus
• 5+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry
• Strong working knowledge of WIP reporting, job costing, and backlog analysis
• Experience leading and mentoring an accounting team
• Legal, risk/insurance, and banking experience desired
• Sage 100 Contractor and GCPay experience a plus
• Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
• Highly organized, able to work independently, and consistently meets deadlines
• Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record
