We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for a growing electrical contracting and service organization. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the monthly close process, financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, cash flow management, internal controls, and compliance. This individual will serve as a strategic business partner to ownership and leadership while ensuring accurate financial data and operational accountability across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have experience in construction, electrical contracting, field services, or project-based environments, with strong expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and managing the financial aspects of multiple ongoing projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, KPIs, forecasts, and variance analyses for leadership.
- Oversee project accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and revenue recognition.
- Monitor project profitability and partner with operations leaders to improve financial performance.
- Develop and manage annual budgets and ongoing financial forecasts.
- Maintain cash flow projections and manage banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms for annual reviews, audits, and tax filings.
- Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Oversee payroll processing and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage sales and use tax reporting and other regulatory filings.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 3+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role.
- Experience in electrical contracting, construction, engineering, field services, or project-based industries strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial management.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience managing audits, tax filings, and banking relationships.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and accounting software.
