Job summary

Jobot is seeking a highly experienced financial leader for our California-based civil contracting client.

The role requires hands-on accounting leadership, overseeing monthly close, budgets, and project profitability analysis for multi-million dollar projects. Ideal candidate has 10-15+ years in controller roles within construction, CPA or CMA certification preferred, and the ability to present results to owners and manage external audits.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager.
• Construction industry experience strongly preferred (general contractor, specialty contractor).
• Experience supporting companies in the $15M–$20M revenue range.
• Technical construction knowledge (beneficial).
• Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition; WIP schedules; job costing; change orders.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate monthly financial statements within 10–15 days after month-end.
• Develop annual budgets and conduct reviews.
• Analyze gross profit by project and monitor project margins.
• Identify cost overruns early; improve internal controls.
• Develop KPIs for executives and present financial results to ownership.
• Manage banking and external relationships.

Hands-on accounting

• 10-15+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager with progressive accounting and finance experience
• Construction industry experience (strongly preferred) General contractor, specialty contractor – drilling and shoring contractor (commercial/ residential)
• Experience supporting companies in the $15 million to $20 million revenue range
• Technical Construction Knowledge (beneficial)

• Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
