GlyMed+, "The Brand of the Skincare Professional™," is seeking a Controller to lead our accounting function. For over 35 years GlyMed+ has been an industry leader in professional skincare, providing clinical-grade, results-driven products, cutting-edge education, and solutions that support licensed skincare professionals and the clients they treat, in more than 130 countries.
This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the SVP of Accounting & Technology, with two direct reports: a Staff Accountant and a Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant. You will own the close, the controls, payroll, and every commission and incentive calculation the company pays, in a business that is scaling quickly and formalizing its financial operations at the same time. The role is based in our Pleasant Grove, Utah office on a hybrid schedule of four days in office and one day from home.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Close
- Own the month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate financial statements and management reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain a comprehensive and well-documented system of accounting records.
- Manage the general ledger and chart of accounts, and maintain account substantiation across every posting account.
- Support FP&A, including budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, ROI analysis, and treasury.
Internal Controls
- Design, document, and operate internal controls across all transaction cycles, to a standard that withstands outside diligence.
- Serve as the review layer over work prepared by the accounting team, and maintain segregation of duties within a small department.
- Coordinate outside audits, reviews, and the corporate tax return with our external CPA and tax firm.
- Identify control gaps proactively and close them, rather than waiting for them to be found.
Payroll
- Own semi-monthly payroll end to end in BambooHR, including off-cycle runs, timekeeping review, and FLSA overtime calculation.
- Administer payroll tax, multi-state registrations and filings, and year-end W-2 reporting.
- Process merit increases, retroactive pay, and compensation changes, and maintain the supporting documentation for each.
- Reconcile benefit deductions, 401(k) contributions and remittances, and the related liability accounts, in partnership with our plan administrator.
- Build and reconcile expense and mileage reimbursement batches against the payroll register.
- Partner with Human Resources on anything employee-facing, and handle compensation data with discretion.
Commission and Incentive Calculation
- Calculate and administer monthly and quarterly Inside Sales incentives across a four-component plan: new-account commission, retention bonus, year-over-year territory growth, and promotion-specific incentives.
- Calculate outside sales and brand ambassador commissions, including contract independent representatives.
- Administer Regen Retail revenue-share payouts and maintain the related accounts payable.
- Calculate distributor and international account manager commissions.
- Produce the monthly Education bonus calculation against per-class rates and eligibility requirements.
- Supply the financial inputs behind director-level bonus programs.
- Build every calculation from system data rather than by hand, and document each one so it is reproducible, reviewable, and not dependent on one person.
Operations and Systems
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash application, collections, fixed assets, and insurance administration.
- Own average-cost inventory accounting, assembly builds and bills of material, the annual physical count, the cycle count program, and the reconciliation of item receipts to vendor bills.
- Ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax filings and government reporting.
- Own the accounting side of our system integrations, including payment settlement and deposit matching, and resolve integration exceptions rather than letting them accumulate.
- Maintain and extend accounting systems, and automate manual processes wherever a control can be built in rather than bolted on.
- Administer pricing, vendor management, and banking relationships, and support corporate account requirements including EDI and negotiated terms.
Leadership
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of two, with room to grow as the company scales.
- Write and maintain the documentation and procedures for everything this department does.
- Communicate clearly with department heads across the company, and provide timely reporting to management and outside parties.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the President and the SVP of Accounting & Technology on financial performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master's degree preferred. CPA preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
- Direct supervisory experience, with a track record of developing people.
- Hands-on ownership of in-house payroll, ideally multi-state.
- Experience administering commission or incentive compensation plans.
- Strong ERP skills. NetSuite experience is strongly preferred, including saved-search reporting.
- Inventory, manufacturing, or consumer products accounting experience.
- Internal controls experience. Audit or public accounting background is a significant asset.
- A demonstrated habit of documenting process, not just performing it.
- Sound judgment and discretion with owner-level, payroll, and compensation-confidential information.
- Comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced environment where the answer is often not yet written down.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen at any time.
