JCW Group is recruiting for a well-established alternative investment firm seeking a Controller to lead the accounting function for a publicly traded REIT. This high-visibility role reports to senior finance leadership and governs a team of accounting professionals in a fast-paced, autonomous environment.

The position emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with investment, credit, and legal teams, along with managing external audits and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of accounting experience, including time in public accounting (Big 4 or top regional firm).
• Progressive accounting background with a move from public to private-sector roles.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management across senior leadership.

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a publicly traded REIT.

This is a high-visibility opportunity for a controller ready to step into a larger leadership seat within a fast-moving, autonomous team. Reporting into senior finance leadership, the Controller will oversee a team of accounting professionals and carries strong cross-functional exposure, partnering regularly with investment, credit, and legal teams. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in Manhattan.

What You'll Do:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a publicly traded REIT
• Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals
• Coordinate accounting matters with related portfolio entities
• Serve as a key liaison across investment, credit, and legal functions
• Manage external audit relationship and ensure clean, well-documented processes
• Own regulatory and compliance reporting requirements, keeping timelines on track in a fast-paced environment

What They're Looking For:

• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in public accounting (Big 4 or top regional firm)
• A track record of moving from public accounting into a private-sector role, ideally within a bank, credit fund, or credit-focused REIT
• CPA required
• Prior team management experience and comfort operating with autonomy in a lean environment
• Strong communication skills, with regular interaction across senior stakeholders
• A proactive, organized, and control-minded approach to managing deadlines
