About the Role:
As Controller, you will lead the day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in line with GAAP and organizational objectives. You will oversee the general ledger, close processes, and internal controls while partnering with leadership to provide clear financial insights. Your work will underpin informed decision-making and help drive continuous improvement across the finance function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the preparation and review of financial reports, analyses, and dashboards for leadership and key stakeholders.
- Administer and optimize the ERP system, ensuring accurate data, efficient workflows, and effective reporting.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
- Supervise, coach, and develop less experienced team members to build capability and strengthen the finance function.
- Identify and drive process improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability within accounting operations.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- CPA designation with active or easily transferable licensure.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a complex or multi-entity environment.
- Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
- Strong ERP systems experience, with the ability to own configuration, processes, and reporting.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support less experienced team members in a collaborative setting.
- Mission-driven mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
- Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable cloud-based ERP (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Experience in mission-driven, nonprofit, or socially focused organizations.
- Background in multi-entity consolidations or project-based accounting.
- Exposure to audit processes and coordination with external auditors.
- Experience implementing or upgrading ERP or financial systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required).
- CPA certification (required).
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (MBA, MAcc) (preferred).
- Ongoing professional education in GAAP, financial reporting, or systems (preferred).
