Job summary

Liminal in New York, NY, seeks a senior accounting leader to own the monthly close, revenue recognition across four business models, and the overall control environment. You will report to the CFO and coordinate with an experienced fractional team and outsourced partners.

Responsibilities include ASC 606 policy, multi-entity/multi-currency close, annual audits, and payroll across five countries. The role offers direct exposure to the CFO, CEO and board, with equity and a strong compensation

Qualifications

• CPA required.
• ASC 606 applied to live contracts; subscription plus usage plus services.
• Deep GAAP knowledge; ability to research, memo, and defend conclusions.
• Experience leading month-end closes across multiple entities and currencies.
• Mult-country payroll or PEO experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the ASC 606 policy across four revenue streams: tiered platform subscriptions, credit consumption, advisory engagements and research licensing.
• Read commercial contracts and advise on deal structure before signature, not after.
• Build and maintain the revenue schedule, including deferred balances on unconsumed credits.
• Run the monthly close on a published calendar, moving to five business days.
• Own the chart of accounts, reconciliations, accruals and month-end reporting.
• Direct and review the work of outsourced accounting partners.
• Build and document the control environment.
• Lead the annual financial audit end-to-end: scoping, schedules, request lists, and technical positions.
• Support the SOC 2 Type 2 surveillance cycle on financial and access controls.
• Own accounting for payroll across five countries, including the 2027 employer of record transition.
• Allocate cost by entity and line of business: Platform and Data, Advisory, Audience and Influence.
• Produce the monthly close package and the financial sections of board materials with the CFO.

About the role

Own the accounting function for a venture-backed strategy and technology firm growing across six markets. Reporting to the CFO, you will run the monthly close, own revenue recognition across four commercial models, build the control environment, and lead the annual audit. Liminal has invested in a layered finance function: an experienced fractional CFO team covering FP&A, treasury, and strategic finance, and outsourced specialists handling transaction processing. You are the full-time accounting leader inside the business who connects them and owns the books.

What Success Looks Like

• 30 days: You know how Liminal makes money. Contracts read, revenue streams mapped, close process walked end-to-end with the outsourced team, auditor relationship established.
• 90 days: Two closes complete and documented. Written ASC 606 memo covering all four revenue streams, with open positions identified and a recommendation on each.
• 1 year: Clean audit opinion with no material adjustments. Monthly close lands in five business days. Line-of-business reporting runs on a published calendar without rework.

What We’re Looking For

• 8-12 years in accounting, combining public accounting and industry
• CPA required
• Technology industry experience required; SaaS, data or information services preferred, particularly consumption or usage-based pricing
• ASC 606 applied to live contracts, not studied. Subscription plus usage plus services is the closest profile
• Multiple annual audits owned from the company side, not as a staff contributor
• Deep working GAAP. You can research a question, write a memo and defend the conclusion a year later
• Demonstrated ownership of a monthly close, including multi-entity and multi-currency
• Experience strengthening a close process or control environment you inherited
• Comfort with the latest AI models and tooling. Liminal uses AI heavily across the business and expects finance to do the same
• MBA or CFA a strong plus
• Multi-country payroll, employer of record or PEO experience a plus
• Ability to work in-office in New York
