Description du poste

We are seeking an experienced Controller with extensive insurance industry experience and exceptional statutory reporting expertise to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. This individual will oversee the monthly close, strengthen internal controls, and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting across a complex insurance brokerage organization.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who understands brokerage revenue, producer compensation, premium accounting, fiduciary responsibilities, and multi-entity operations. Deep experience preparing and reviewing statutory financial statements and applicable insurance regulatory filings is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate results and timely delivery.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reporting across multiple entities.
  • Oversee commission revenue recognition, agency-billed and direct-billed transactions, producer compensation, contingent commissions, and carrier settlements.
  • Manage premium receivables, premium payables, fiduciary accounts, and related reconciliations.
  • Research complex accounting issues and document accounting policies and conclusions.
Statutory reporting and regulatory compliance
  • Lead the preparation, review, and timely submission of statutory financial statements and regulatory filings for applicable regulated entities.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), relevant NAIC reporting requirements, and state-specific insurance regulations where applicable.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation, including reconciliations between GAAP and statutory results, as required.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, assess their impact, and implement necessary reporting and control updates.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and requests for financial information.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable premium trust accounting, fiduciary fund, and other insurance-related financial reporting requirements.
Controls, audits, and leadership
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors and support annual financial and statutory audits, as applicable.
  • Oversee cash management, working capital, and cash-flow reporting.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while maintaining clear accountability and deadlines.
  • Improve accounting systems, reporting capabilities, and close processes.
  • Support acquisition accounting, opening balance sheets, and integration of acquired agencies or brokerages.
  • Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and business performance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
  • Extensive, recent experience within an insurance brokerage or insurance agency organization.
  • Demonstrated ownership of statutory reporting, including hands-on preparation and review—not solely coordination with outside providers.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, applicable statutory accounting requirements, and insurance-related financial compliance.
  • Experience managing multi-entity accounting, consolidations, and intercompany activity.
  • Proven ability to lead financial closes, manage audits, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting and insurance agency management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Applied Epic, Vertafore AMS360, or comparable agency management platforms.
  • Public accounting experience serving insurance industry clients.
  • Experience supporting organizations with regulated insurance subsidiaries or affiliated insurance entities.
What Success Looks Like
  • Accurate, timely financial and statutory reporting.
  • Well-reconciled premium, fiduciary, carrier, and commission accounts.
  • Efficient close processes and clear, actionable management reporting.
  • Strong audit readiness, documented controls, and responsive regulatory support.
  • A high-performing accounting team that can support continued growth.
