Job summary

Mackie Myers, a fast-growing beauty and personal care brand, is seeking a Controller to lead day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls from our Los Angeles HQ. Reporting to the CFO, you will build scalable processes to support continued growth across DTC, wholesale, retail, and marketplace channels.

Qualifications

• Active CPA and a CPA certification is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including controller-level leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements under U.S. GAAP.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee reconciliations.
• Develop management reporting packages, KPI reporting, and variance analysis for executive leadership.
• Support budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
• Oversee accounting and revenue recognition across multiple sales channels.
• Manage trade spend, promotional programs, customer deductions, rebates, and chargebacks.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate sales reporting and invoicing processes.
• Monitor gross-to-net revenue calculations and channel profitability.
• Oversee inventory accounting, cost accounting, and product-level profitability analysis.
• Coordinate with Operations and Supply Chain to improve inventory controls and reporting.
• Ensure accurate accounting related to manufacturing and third-party logistics operations.
• Lead annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, sales tax requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
• Coordinate with external tax advisors and support income tax reporting activities.
• Drive accounting process improvements and automation initiatives.
• Support ERP optimization and financial systems enhancements.
• Build scalable reporting and operational processes that support continued growth.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader responsible for the day-to-day accounting function, financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, inventory accounting, and team development. This individual will play a key role in building scalable infrastructure and supporting the organization's next phase of growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee account reconciliations.

• Ensure accurate accounting related to manufacturing and third-party logistics operations.

• Lead annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, sales tax requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
• Coordinate with external tax advisors and support income tax reporting activities.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Drive accounting process improvements and automation initiatives.
• Support ERP optimization and financial systems enhancements.
• Build scalable reporting and operational processes that support continued growth.
• Partner with leadership to improve financial visibility and reporting capabilities.

Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team.

Qualifications

• Active CPA required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Previous experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
• Public accounting foundation strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience leading audits and managing accounting operations.
• ERP system experience within a consumer products environment.

• Experience within the beauty, skincare, cosmetics, personal care, wellness, or broader consumer products industry.
• Experience supporting high-growth companies.
• Background in omnichannel businesses with direct-to-consumer, retail, and wholesale operations.
