Job summary

Hire-Authority is seeking a Controller for our client in Northwest Houston. The role is responsible for month-end close across 5 entities, AP/AR oversight, payroll, and comprehensive financial reporting.

The position includes budgeting, capital expenditure planning, and risk mitigation through hedging for inventory items where applicable. The successful candidate will have 7–10 years of accounting/finance experience, a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and a strong ability to manage

Responsibilities

  • Month-end close for 5 entities and oversee AP/AR processes.
  • Prepare monthly WIP adjustments and ensure fixed assets are tracked and depreciated correctly.
  • Oversee annual budgeting and capital expenditure planning processes.
  • Manage payroll processes, payroll tax remittances, and tax reporting.
  • Prepare monthly income statement analytics and project-level profitability reviews.

Job description

Our client is searching for a Controller for their company located in Northwest Houston. The salary range for this position is $110,000-$125,000 per year.

Duties/Responsibilities:
General Accounting
  • Month-end close for 5 entities.
  • Oversee the AP process and ensure liabilities and accruals are properly recorded in the financial statements.
  • Oversee the AR process and ensure billing is done timely and invoices are collected within terms.
  • Prepare monthly WIP adjustments for 2 entities.
  • Ensure fixed assets are properly tracked, depreciated, and disposed of within the financial statements.
Strategic Planning
  • Oversee the annual budget process.
  • Oversee the capital expenditure planning process.
  • Prepare monthly reports for projects requiring them.
  • Participate in the annual insurance renewal process ensuring the company is mitigating risk properly.
  • Look for ways to mitigate price risk with high use inventory items using hedging, swaps, and derivates where appropriate.
  • Ensure timely notices are sent to customers who do not pay to protect our legal rights to funds.
  • Note receivable payment reconciliation between note balance and interest income.
  • Prepare annual compilation for 3 entities.
Finance Management
  • Cash management.
  • Collections.
  • Track and collect retainage balances due to the Company.
Financial Operations Management
  • Rent and note receivable payment reconciliation for 4 entities.
  • Oversee the billing process and ensure proper AIA forms are completed for billing.
  • Ensure proper cost accounting is done.
  • Prepare monthly job ledgers calculating progress net income on projects.
Data Analysis and Forecasting
  • Prepare monthly income statement analytics.
  • Update the Projection Model monthly and adjust forecasting model accordingly.
  • Review of job costing and margins on jobs monthly.
  • Prepare final profit and loss reports after collecting retainage on jobs.
Compliance, Liability, and Liaison Responsibilities
  • Oversee payroll ensuring proper calculation and running of payroll.
  • Ensure payroll tax remittances are properly and timely made.
  • Ensure quarterly payroll tax reports are filed with the IRS and TWC.
  • Ensure annual payroll and information tax reports are filed with the IRS (Form 940, Forms W-2, Forms 1099-MISC, Forms 1099-NEC).
  • Oversee the annual tax return preparation process acting as a liaison between the tax firm and management for 6 entities.
  • Oversee the annual combined financial statement review process.
  • Oversee human resources department ensuring the company is compliant with Department of Labor regulations with their employees.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in accounting/finance.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
