Role Description

The Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in the Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Area. This position oversees all accounting operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and monthly close activities. The Controller prepares and analyzes financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, and provides timely reports to leadership to support project planning and strategic decision-making. Daily responsibilities include maintaining internal controls, monitoring cash flow, managing banking relationships, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies. The Controller collaborates with project managers and operations teams to track job costs, review variances, and implement process improvements that enhance financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong financial accounting and reporting skills, including general ledger management, month-end close, and preparation of financial statements.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and job cost tracking in a construction or infrastructure-related environment.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, as well as advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and financial modeling.
• Knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and internal control frameworks, with the ability to maintain accurate records and support audits.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with leadership, project managers, and field teams, including the ability to explain financial information in practical terms.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
• Prior experience in construction, utilities, or heavy civil contracting is highly beneficial.
