Want to be the financial backbone of a growing Columbus company? We're looking for a Controller who wants real ownership: a seat close to leadership, a hand in every corner of the finance function, and the freedom to build smarter processes as we grow. If you'd rather shape the numbers than just report them, and you enjoy having a direct line to the people making the decisions, this is the role for you.
What You'll Own
- The general ledger and monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with financial reporting prepared on both an accrual and a cash basis
- Bank deposit verification and reconciliation, making sure every dollar is recorded accurately and on time
- Customer billing, from invoice creation through collections, including follow-up calls on past-due accounts
- Accounts payable and bill pay, including vendor invoice review, approval, and timely payment
- Timekeeping and payroll for a largely hourly workforce, including data entry, processing, and the reporting and compliance that go with it
- Income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, delivered on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule
- Budget preparation and rolling forecasts that give leadership a clear view of where the business is headed
- Federal, state, and local tax filings, along with management of unemployment claims
- Day-to-day coordination with our outside CPA firm on audit and tax work
- Vendor management for benefits providers and business insurance carriers, including contract review and renewals
- Documentation and improvement of accounting processes so the team can scale without adding complexity
- Special projects and cross-functional initiatives as the business grows
What You Bring
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 10+ years of accounting experience since completing your undergraduate degree
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, specifically using accrual accounting
- Direct responsibility for payroll entry and processing, ideally in a company with mostly hourly employees
- Accounts receivable and accounts payable experience, including invoicing, collections calls, and bill pay
- A background in cash flow reporting, budget preparation, tax filing, and unemployment claims
- Experience managing vendor relationships, particularly benefits and business insurance
- A track record of managing the relationship with an outside CPA firm
- The ability to work onsite in Columbus, five days a week
Nice to Have
- Commission calculation and reporting for sales professionals
- Experience in a professional services or consulting firm
- Familiarity with ADP, SharePoint, and Teams
