Job summary

Confidential in Cleveland seeks a Controller who speaks construction accounting fluently and is ready to lead our accounting function through continued growth.

You will own the month-end and year-end close, manage job costing and WIP reporting, oversee AIA billing and bonding, and ensure GAAP compliance across active projects.

Partner with Project Managers and Operations to keep job costs and budgets aligned, build strong internal controls, and lead the accounting team to support company growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction or project-based industry.
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Experience with surety/bonding relationships and AIA billing is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end and year-end close process, including job cost accounting and WIP reporting.
• Prepare and review percentage-of-completion schedules and ensure accurate revenue recognition across active projects.
• Oversee AIA billing, retainage tracking, and subcontractor payment processes.
• Ensure financial statements comply with GAAP and construction industry accounting standards.
• Manage banking relationships, bonding requirements, and surety reporting.
• Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and bonding agents.
• Partner with Project Managers and Operations to keep job costs and budgets aligned.
• Build and maintain strong internal controls across accounting and project financial processes.
• Manage and develop the accounting team.

On Your Plate:

• Own the month-end and year-end close process, including job cost accounting and WIP reporting
