UMMA is seeking a mission-driven accounting leader to manage the accounting department, ensuring GAAP and Uniform Guidance compliance, and supporting budgeting and financial reporting for a non-profit healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; master’s or CPA/CMA preferred.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years supervisory experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, general ledger software, and healthcare reimbursement structures.
• Strong organizational, tracking, and follow-up skills.
• Excellent communication and management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Oversee timely, accurate GAAP and Uniform Guidance financial reporting.
• Manage daily accounting department operations including month-end close.
• Supervise cash management activities: cash reporting, bank reconciliations, and cash position monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with Federal grant requirements, Medicaid/Medicare billing, and related reports.
• Oversee non-federal grant reporting and reconciliation processes.
• Prepare audit support schedules and liaise with auditors for annual audits.
• Oversee payroll process to ensure timely payments and legal compliance.
• Assist CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning; prepare reports for leadership.

Essential duties

Accounting Operations:

• Ensures timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting aligned to GAAP and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
• Oversees the daily operations of accounting department including management of the month end close
• Oversees cash management activities, including cash reporting, bank reconciliations, and cash position monitoring

Grant & Regulatory Compliance:

• Ensures compliance with Federal grant requirements, Medicaid and Medicare billing and reconciliation reports and other restricted funds
• Maintains Financial Compliance Calendar, Files and Records and ensures timely preparation and submission of all Regulatory Reports (UDS, OSHPD, and Cost Reports, ad hoc.)

• Provides oversight of non federal grant reporting and reconciliation processes, ensuring grant expenditures, financial records, and submitted reports are accurate and complete

Audits:

• Prepares and reviews audit support schedules and serves as a primary contact between UMMA Staff and auditors for annual financial and HRSA compliance audits

Payroll:

• Provides oversight and review of payroll process to ensure payroll is processed timely and labor laws are maintained
• Reviews bi-weekly payroll with Accounting Manager

Budgeting & Forecasting:

• Supports the CFO in annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning & analysis
• Provides management and board-level financial communication and strategy
• Supports the CFO in preparing financial presentations and reports for leadership, committees, and the Board of Directors

Team Leadership:

• Provides leadership and management of the accounting team
• Partners and collaborates closely with executive leadership, clinical operations, and accounting team to support sustainable growth with mission delivery
• Serves as a direct contact for Department Managers as needed to support ongoing Financial needs
• Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, automation, and internal controls

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master's degree, CPA, or CMA certification preferred
• 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with 3+ years in a supervisory capacity and background in an FQHC or non-profit setting.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, general ledger software, and healthcare reimbursement structures
• Excellent organizational, tracking, and follow-up skills
• Strong communication and management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and workflows simultaneously
• An ability to maintain sensitive matters confidentially
