Job summary

Premier Financial Search is seeking a Controller for our client, an established, privately held company in Ventura County. The role focuses on leading day-to-day accounting, strengthening processes and reporting to support growth.

The compensation is $220,000–$240,000 plus bonus, with a hands-on leadership approach across all financial activities and collaboration with senior leadership to drive strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • CPA license with public accounting background preferred.
  • Experience with cost accounting, inventory, or project costing.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to identify trends and provide actionable business insights.

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reporting.

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and related financial analysis.

Compensation

$220,000–$240,000 + bonus

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting and finance functions with a hands-on approach.
  • Manage the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reporting.
  • Strengthen financial reporting and provide meaningful analysis to leadership.
  • Oversee and improve cost accounting and job costing processes.
  • Analyze inventory, costs, margins, profitability, and other key financial drivers.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and related financial analysis.
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial insight that supports operational and business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and overall efficiency.
  • Utilize technology and automation to improve accounting and finance processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with operational teams to improve financial visibility and accountability.
  • Help develop scalable accounting processes and reporting to support the company’s continued growth.
Qualifications
  • Strong progressive accounting experience with current or recent experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Finance Director, or similar accounting leadership role.
  • Hands-on accounting background with the ability to manage the day-to-day while also providing strong financial analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting and/or job costing.
  • Experience working in an environment involving inventory, products, projects, or operational costing.
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, distribution, or a similar industry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and translate financial information into useful business insights.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of accounting controls and financial reporting best practices.
  • Comfortable working in a growing, entrepreneurial private company environment.
  • CPA and prior public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
