Job summary

Atlantic Group is seeking a Controller in Bethesda, MD to lead corporate accounting, financial reporting, consolidations, and finance operations across a growing multi-entity organization. The role partners with the CFO to strengthen processes, oversee operations, support acquisitions, and standardize ERP systems in a high-growth environment.

The ideal candidate has 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience, CPA, and a track record in consolidations and ERP implementations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; MBA preferred.
• CPA designation required.
• 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience with leadership in a Controller/Assistant Controller role.
• Experience in private equity-backed, professional services, or multi-entity environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and core accounting functions while managing daily finance operations.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare consolidated financial statements in line with GAAP and internal reporting.
• Drive ERP implementation and system optimization while standardizing accounting processes and strengthening internal controls.
• Support acquisitions with purchase accounting, financial integrations, and standardization across entities.
• Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting collaboration and continuous process improvement.

Compensation: $100,000 – $180,000/year + bonus

Location: Bethesda, MD

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Atlantic Group is hiring a Controller in Bethesda, MD for our client, supporting corporate accounting, financial reporting, consolidations, and finance operations within a growing multi-entity organization. This leadership role partners closely with the CFO to strengthen accounting processes, oversee financial operations, support acquisitions, and drive ERP standardization across multiple business units. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on accounting leader with experience in consolidations, ERP implementations, and building scalable finance functions in a high‑growth environment.

Responsibilities as the Controller:

• Accounting Leadership: Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and other core accounting functions while managing daily finance operations.
• Financial Reporting: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, prepare consolidated financial statements, and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal reporting requirements.
• ERP & Process Improvement: Drive ERP implementation and system optimization initiatives while standardizing accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, and improving operational efficiency.
• Acquisition Integration: Support acquisitions by assisting with purchase accounting, financial integrations, and the standardization of accounting policies across newly acquired entities.
• Financial Planning: Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis to support strategic business decisions.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering collaboration, professional development, and continuous process improvement.

Qualifications for the Controller:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. MBA is preferred.
• Certification: CPA designation is required.
• Experience: 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting leadership role, is required.
• Industry Knowledge: Experience within a private equity-backed organization, professional services firm, or multi-entity environment is preferred. Experience with financial reporting, consolidations, and accounting operations is required.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems is required. Experience leading or supporting ERP implementations is preferred. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar ERP systems is preferred.
• Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, improve accounting processes, and collaborate effectively across departments.
