Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Control Wireman to perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs at substations across North America. You will terminate cables in relay control panels, work with supplied tools, and follow customer wiring requirements on-site with on-the-job training.

The role requires handling high/low voltage equipment knowledge, accurate reading of wiring diagrams, and willingness to travel for assignments.

Qualifications

  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Complete satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to travel out of town and work overtime.
  • Physically capable of lifting 70 lbs and climbing ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Terminate cables in relay control panels and outdoor equipment.
  • Work with supplied tools; site training on proper wiring and shield grounding.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams to locate cables and determine termination sequence.
  • Assist in correcting factory wiring and rewiring during brown-field substation cutovers.

Job Purpose:

A Control Wireman performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on circuit breakers, transformers, power cables, and other elements at a substation.

Responsibilities
  • Termination of cables in the relay control panels, as well as any outdoor equipment (breakers, VT’s, etc.).
  • All necessary wiring supplies will be available, minus standard hand tools (screwdrivers, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, etc.).
  • Supplied tools include crimpers, wire strippers and cable cutters.
  • Instruction will be given on site as to proper wiring technique desired by the customer, as well as training on proper shield grounding of the control cable.
  • An understanding of wiring diagrams is necessary, as this will be one of the primary means to determine cable location and termination sequence.
  • Assistance in correcting factory wiring may be required, as well as re-wiring existing circuits during a cutover at brown field substations.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.

  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.

Preferred:

  • NETA certified a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred
  • Experience with the following test equipment:

    • Power Factor
    • ductor
    • Megger
    • CT ration & saturation
    • Hi-Pot
  • Knowledge of the following equipment:

    • Circuit Breakers
    • Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage | LV/MV/HV
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Motors
    • PT's & CCVT's
