Overview
The Control Technician 2 is responsible for fabricating control panels, field installation, and commissioning procedures related to control panels and field instrumentation. This includes troubleshooting and calibration of field instruments, equipment, and control panels, as well as testing, analysis, documentation, and updating drawings of finished control panels. The technician is also responsible for maintaining all M.C. Dean, Inc. provided shop tools, meters, and equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Following verbal instructions and reading work orders, diagrams, and wire lists to determine necessary materials and assembly sequence.
- Performing sheet metal work, punching holes, wiring, painting, and welding.
- Providing on-the-job training to new employees.
- Understanding and following company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.
- Ensuring work completion aligns with schedule and quality standards.
- Possessing at least three years of experience in a shop environment and a minimum of one year of electrical experience, with a high school diploma or GED.
Experience and Certifications:
- High school diploma with 4-6 years of relevant experience.
- Obtaining, at the company's expense, CPR and First Aid certifications within six months of hire, and maintaining these certifications.
- Passing background checks and drug tests.
Work Experience:
- Ability to interpret control circuits, schematics, and line diagrams.
- Skill in selecting control components and preparing BOMs according to specifications and standards such as NEC and UL508A.
- Ability to size circuit breakers and fuses for control and power circuits.
- Experience in control panel fabrication, including design, layout, and component installation.
- Experience with installation and troubleshooting of Building Automation Systems/DDC, Distech, Siemens, Niagara.
- Proficiency in wiring and testing wiring of PLCs, VFDs, and other control components.
- Ability to test circuitry and document control panels or circuits.
- Knowledge of using multimeters and test equipment.
- Understanding of industrial automation and control schemes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and replace control circuits and components in industrial environments.
Tools Used:
- Power tools including drills, saws, punch sets (corded, cordless, hydraulic).
- Multimeters, Hi-Pot, Meggar, Relay Tester, Resistance Tester, Ground Tester, Oscilloscope.
- Laptop PCs with software for testing wiring, PLCs, VFDs, and other components.
Physical Abilities:
- Lifting at least 100 pounds and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Handling ladders and working at heights up to 60 feet.
- Performing physical activities such as walking, climbing, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Good vision and hearing, with the ability to communicate in English.
- Recognizing problems or potential issues, applying general rules to specific problems, and understanding details at close range.
