Job summary

Divcon, based in Dallas, TX, is seeking a Control Technician to support DDC/BAS and PLC project work across our nationwide customer base. You will perform installation verification, point-to-point checkout, startup support, and field documentation under the direction of Senior Technicians.

This role requires regular travel with per diem and lodging provided, and you will work with diverse teams to ensure turnkey delivery of unitary systems (VAV/FPB/FCU), AHUs, and basic CW/HW systems.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with HVAC controls sequences and startup processes.

  • Strong documentation discipline and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

About the role:

The Control Technician is the hands-on foundation of the controls field team and will support DDC/BAS or PLC project work based on business need, project assignment, and developing skillset. This role executes installation verification, database uploads, point-to-point checkout, startup support, field documentation, and issue escalation under the direction of Senior and Lead Technicians.

This position requires regular travel. Per diem, lodging, and travel accommodation are provided in accordance with company policy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Start up, commission, re-commission customer systems that utilize DDC or PLC technology
  • Provides solutions to mid-level systems problems either troubleshooting the system or assists others on how to resolve problems. Works with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
  • Verify field installation against drawings, schedules, point lists, network architecture, addressing tables, and project documentation; flag discrepancies to Supervisor or the Senior or Lead Technician.
  • Be able to provide turnkey project delivery on specific site systems
    • Unitary systems (VAV/FPB/FCU)
    • Small AHUs/CRAHs
    • Basic CW/HW Systems
  • Perform verification checks in accordance with L2 to L4 requirements, and support L5 and IST level commissioning for turn-key datacenter execution
  • Understand common communication protocols and network types, including BACnet MS/TP, BACnet IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, LON, EtherNet/IP, RS-485, and Ethernet; verify topology and addressing against project documents.
  • Support commissioning by executing installation verification, point-to-point checkout, functional test steps, and project-specific QC forms under Senior or Lead direction; do not proceed past failed steps without documenting and escalating.
  • Document work daily as it is performed in company QC forms, third-party commissioning documents, and customer/project systems; log deficiencies, failed points, field mismatches, address conflicts, and drawing issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with AEC/construction processes and documents, including plans, specifications, controls submittals, equipment submittals, RFIs, and the submittal process.
Qualifications:
  • 0-3 years of controls installer experience or 1-2 years working in the HVAC controls industry; equivalent electrical, HVAC, construction, automation, or technical training may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and basic controls strategies, including the ability to use the sequence of operations as a field reference during point-to-point checkout and startup.
  • Understanding of low-voltage control circuits, control wiring, dry contacts, relay logic, multimeter use, wire labeling, color coding, and LOTO/jobsite safety requirements.
  • Operator-level familiarity with one or more DDC/BAS or PLC platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Delta enteliWEB, Distech, Siemens Desigo, JCI Metasys, Schneider EcoStruxure, Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, or similar.
  • Basic understanding of BACnet, Modbus, LON, EtherNet/IP, network cable types, unique addressing, and end-of-line termination expectations.
  • Read and work from ladder diagrams, wiring schematics, panel layout drawings, equipment schedules, point lists, and project documentation.
  • Strong communication and documentation discipline, attention to detail, and ability to elevate issues before making unapproved field modifications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record as required by the company's insurance provider.
Experience:
  • Hands-on experience or training with field device wiring, controller I/O, point-to-point checkout, basic networking, drawings, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Experience working in or around active construction environments and communicating with technicians, project managers, trades, contractors, or customers is preferred.
  • Experience with Niagara, BACnet, Modbus, or comparable controls platforms/protocols is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel by plane or vehicle up to 95% based on work site locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and lifts as required.
  • Ability to safely bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
