Job summary

San Antonio Water System is seeking a Control Systems Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair process control systems. Under supervision of the instrumentation and controls group, you will complete tasks, attend safety training, and support the team to fulfill SAWS's mission.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair and installation of control systems or related field, OR an Associate's Degree in Industrial Process Instrumentation or related field from an accredited institution, OR HS diploma with CCST certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and navigates PLCs for automation systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots chemical analysis systems, hazardous chemical distribution, and detection systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots fluoride, chlorine, and pH analytical equipment.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots RF radio communication equipment.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude with low voltage circuits.
  • Assists Senior Control Systems Technicians with data and inventory of field equipment.
  • Supports projects and installation of PLCs, analyzers, flow meters, RF radios, and other process equipment.

Job description

Grade 18 - Starting Hourly Rate: $26.46. Rate of pay depends on qualifications.

JOBSUMMARY

The Control Systems Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of process control systems. Under the guidance of the instrumentation and controls group the technician shall complete assigned tasks, attends required safety training and follows all safety standards. The technician works as part of the instrument and controls team to meet SAWS' mission statement.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and navigates Process Logic Controllers (PLCs) for automation systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots chemical analysis systems,hazardous chemical distribution, and detection systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots fluoride, chlorine, and PH analytical equipment.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots RF radio communication equipment.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude with low voltage circuits.
  • Assists Senior Control Systems Technicians with data and inventory of field equipment.
  • Assists and supports Senior Control Systems Technicians with internal and external projects, installation of PLC's, analyzers, flow meters, RF radios, and other process equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISIONMAKING
  • The Control Systems Technician works under limited supervision.
  • Coordinates technicians of different trades in order to carry out repair and installation of complex control systems and instrumentation.
MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair and installation of Control Systems or related field OR an Associate's Degree in Industrial Process Instrumentation or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency OR High School Diploma or GED and must be a Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST).
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
  • Instrument Society of America Certification.
  • Class "C" Groundwater Texas Water Operator License or Class "C" Texas Wastewater Treatment Operator License.
  • Experience in potable and non-potable water industries.
  • Work order and maintenance management systems experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work hours other than regular schedule such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call and rotating shifts.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize laptop computers, multi-meters, and other calibration equipment.

Working conditions are primarily outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather; wastewater; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; offensive fumes; excessive noise; heavy traffic; deep excavations; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. May be required to comply with requirements as specified in applicable regulations for personal protective equipment, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated equipment.
